Landscaping Tips: How To Prune a tree?

When you have trees on your property, you know that you would love it if they looked their best, but what happens when they are not interested in obliging you? The truth of the matter is that trees do grow fairly wild and due to a number of different issues, they might have a configuration that is displeasing to you. The first thing that you need to consider is the difference between tree pruning and tree trimming. When you prune a tree, you are essentially cutting off fairly major branches. Tree trimming, on the other hand, is something that is done to the most superficial branches of the tree, and with tree trimming, you are more often trying to keep the tree in the same configuration without changing it drastically.

What are some of the tools that you can use when you are thinking about doing your own tree pruning? The first tool and the one that most people think about is the chainsaw. If you are uncomfortable with a chainsaw, remember that you can still use a pruning saw with a telescopic handle. This is much easier to use and you might find that you feel safer with it as well. A small stepladder might also be a good choice for you.

If you want to do a good job with pruning your tree, remember that you should take it slow and that above all, you should plan. Remember that you should know what branches should be removed and how you can get a neater and more attractive shape in this fashion. Be aware of what the branches look like Are there dead branches or branches that are simply not looking as good? Has an abundance of growth to one side create issues for the rest of the tree? Also keep an eye out for branches that might be looking a bit tired or diseased. Broken limbs, limbs that hang too low or limbs that crisscross might also be candidates for pruning.

When you want to make sure that you are not stripping the bark from the rest of the tree as you cut, remember that you can make a series of cuts before you actually saw off the branch. First, cut halfway through the branch five inches from the trunk. Then make your second cut on the top of the branch and on the outside of the original cut, and then finally make a third cut on the trunk-side of the branch as you saw from top to bottom. This will help you keep your tree looking good.
